Comprehensive Metabolic Profile

  • Detoxification – Evidence of glutathione wasting, glutathione is an important anti oxidant protecting cells from damage
  • Intestinal Microbial Balance Markers – Mild indication for overgrowth of unfavourable bacteria
  • Fatty Acids – High trans fatty acids and the pro-inflammatory arachidonic acid is elevated in relationship to the anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, this is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and other inflammatory illnesses

Treatment Plan

Dietary: Decrease intake of foods high in trans-fats such as take away meals, decrease intake of foods high in arachidonic acid, such intensively farmed red meats; increase intake of fruits and vegetables.

Nutritional: Multi-vitamin with additional B vitamins, coenzyme Q-10 and gamma/delta vitamin E for antioxidant needs. N-Acetyl-Cysteine to support the important antioxidant glutathione, probiotics and anti-inflammatory marine fish oils.

Exercise: Begin an exercise program including 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 5 days a week with strength training and stretching 3 days a week.

Follow Up

Arthur immediately made significant dietary changes including moving to mainly organic foods and also recruited his wife and children to make exercise part of their family time together. He also began the supplement program to help enhance his dietary changes. After 3 months Arthur lost 15 pounds, has much more energy and was sleeping better. He no longer feels he needs his medication to aid his sleep and is usually in bed for 10.30pm, which allows for a full 8 hours sleep. On awaking he feels rested and refreshed which was definitely not the case before he started the protocol.

His follow up Comprehensive Metabolic Profile showed an improvement in his fatty acid balance, decreased trans-fatty acids and reduced lipid peroxides indicating reduced cellular membrane damage. Additionally his markers for B vitamin insufficiency had improved markedly.

The adrenal stress profile showed a reduction in the stress hormone cortisol, undoubtedly a big factor in his improved sleep pattern. His results revealed a continued need for coenzyme Q-10 and a probiotic. “I’m absolutely delighted with the progress I have made, I feel great and I’m now a 36” waist from 42” 12 months ago”
